Just as expected, the May 2020 Update is being rolled out in stages to systems across the world, as the company wants to buy more time to detect issues in the early phases.
However, users running Windows 10 version 1903 and version 1909 can manually trigger the download of the May 2020 Update by checking for updates in Windows Update on their devices.
“To ensure you continue to have a reliable, productive experience with your Windows 10 devices, we are taking a measured and phased approach to how we offer the May Update, initially limiting availability to those devices running Windows 10, versions 1903 and 1909 who seek the update via Windows Update,” Microsoft explains.
“We will closely monitor the May 2020 Update experience and share timely information on the current rollout status and known issues (open and resolved) across both feature and monthly updates via the Windows release health dashboard and @WindowsUpdate.” Phased rollout
Needless to say, the download and installation process of Windows 10 May 2020 Update is almost completely automatic. After checking for updates in Windows Update, version 2004 should show up and you can click “Download and install” to begin the installation.
Of course, installing the May 2020 Update takes a while, but this all depends on your system as well. You are allowed to choose the time to begin the installation – note, however, that the “Download and install” option only shows up on devices running Windows 10 version 1903 and 1909.
For the time being, we aren’t aware of any issues experienced during or after the installation of the May 2020 Update for production devices, but more information should surface in the coming days. We’ll keep an eye on everything related to this update and let you know with follow-up posts as they happen.
