A slip on northbound State Highway 2 lanes out of Wellington is causing long delays for rush hour commuters trying to leaving the city.
Police said the slip initially covered both northbound lanes before the Petone offramp, but one lane had been reopened.
“There has been a significant impact to traffic heading north. It is thought contractors will be at the scene for a number of hours and the other lane will remain closed,” a police spokesperson said.
Queues of traffic were building as people were leaving the city.
Motorists were urged to delay travelor use State Highway 1 and take another route.
