Tropical cyclone Peter is expected to pass through the Lesser Antilles after becoming the season’s 16th named storm on Sunday.
In its 5 p.m. AST update, the National Hurricane Center said Peter was about 350 miles east of the Northern Leeward Island with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and moving west-northwest at 17 mph.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, but residents of the northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico should keep an eye on the system’s progress, according to the NHC.
The NHC predicts a gradual decrease in forwards speed through Tuesday, with a turn to the north-west by Wednesday.
On Monday and Tuesday, Peter is expected to pass well to the north of the northern Leeward Islands.
Last year’s 16th storm was Paulette, which became a named storm on September 7.
On Sunday, Tropical Storm Rose formed, becoming the 17th named storm of the season.
