The UN General Assembly will vote on Thursday on the United States’ request to suspend Russia from the Human Rights Council.

A nation can be suspended by a two-thirds majority of voting General Assembly members in New York for egregious and systematic abuses of human rights. Russia is in the second year of a three-year term on the Human Rights Council, which has 47 members.
