The incident, which occurred about 3.30 a.m. in Market Street, appears to have been between local Recognised Seasonal Employer employees and members of the Rebels gang from outside Marlborough, according to police.

A guy died at the scene, and two others are in critical condition at the hospital.

According to Marlborough Area Commander Inspector Simon Feltham, those detained face a variety of offences, including murder, intentional injury, assault, and disorderly behaviour.

“We acknowledge that today’s incident will be concerning to the wider community,” he said, adding the further arrests were likely.

The first case will be heard in Blenheim District Court tomorrow.

The cordons in the area have been lifted, but police will remain active in the area as their investigation continues.
