Thousands of New Zealanders have reported feeling the 4.9 earthquake that struck 35 km north of New Plymouth this afternoon.

GeoNet rated the earthquake as a “moderate” shake, centered at a depth of 11km.
More than 3500 people reported feeling the earthquake on the GeoNet website withinth a few minutes.
