These are mind-boggling sales figures for the company’s latest foldables.

Foldables had a rocky start as the next phase in the evolution of phone form factors, as evidenced by Samsung’s scars. Nonetheless, following some much-needed tweaking of the original formula, it appears that the business has discovered a way to make Galaxy foldables more appealing to consumers.

Samsung unveiled the revised Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and Galaxy Z Flip3 5G handsets earlier this month, which cost less than their predecessors. So far, the concept of a foldable phone hasn’t piqued the interest of many people for a variety of reasons, but now that the price has dropped slightly, it’s worth considering whether consumers are finally warming to it.

According to South Korean pre-order data, Samsung’s latest foldables are not only the most popular takes on this form factor, but they may also become the company’s best-selling high-end phones in years.

According to the Korea Herald, customers have already ordered over 450,000 units of both the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 in just over a week. This figure represents carrier-locked devices and is likely to rise to between 600,000 and 800,000 units over the pre-order period. This is in stark contrast to the original generation, which only sold 400,000 units in a few of months.

What’s more, pre-orders for its new foldables were more than double the amount recorded for the Galaxy S21 series, and more than 50 percent higher than the number recorded for the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra last year.

It’s entirely plausible that Samsung’s choice to omit the Galaxy Note this generation contributed to increased focus on the upcoming foldables. However, a deeper dive into the study reveals that the young demographic is a significant driver of this increased interest in the bleeding edge, with people in their 20s and 30s accounting for 57% of Galaxy Z Flip3 pre-orders and 49% of Galaxy Z Fold3 pre-orders.

In a statement, Samsung noted that “we are thankful for the great customer response to our new Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3. Interest in foldable smartphones is at an all-time high, with pre-order volume for Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 already outpacing total sales for Galaxy Z devices to date in 2021. We’re committed to providing the most innovative experiences to our consumers.”
