Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State

The Bayelsa House of Assembly says that there is no intention of suing Gov. Douye Diri, describing rumours as a diversion.

The Chairman of the Information Committee of the House, Mr Tari Porri, representing Ekeremor Constituency 1, denied the rumour that the Sixth Assembly had concluded plans to challenge the governor.

Porri responded to claims that the legislature disagreed with the executive over the disbursement of N38 billion of the federal government’s refunds.

He said this during a briefing in the Bayelsa Speaker’s conference room in Yenagoa on Tuesday.

According to him, this is the second time the suspected prosecution plot against the outgoing governor of Bayelsa has taken place.

Porri said that, in the past, the state legislature had reported such an alleged indictment.

“The 6th Assembly under Speaker Abraham Ingobere have shown that they don’t know what those behind the alleged plot are talking about.

“The 6th Assembly have no reason to impeach the governor, we have never contemplated on that before.

“We strongly believe that those peddling such rumour never mean well for our dear state.

“Under the leadership of Hon. Abraham Ingobere, we have never thought of such for a man who have started most of his promises to his people,” he said.

The spokesperson flickered such rumours, assuring that the Assembly is partnering with the governor to deliver democracy dividends to the people.

The Chairman of the Information Committee clarified that a legislative framework had been formed before the prosecution could be carried out.

Porri said that the 19 PDP members and their five APC counterparts are operating in synergy with the governor and the leadership of the Bayelsa Assembly
