Police name man found dead after central Auckland shooting

A man who was found dead after a shooting incident in central Auckland on Monday has been identified.

Unexplained death in Taita, Lower Hutt early on Sunday 26th January 2020.  A Police cordon and crime scene invetsigation tent were in place Monday 27th January 2020.

He was 47-year-old Clifford Umuhuri of Whakatāne.

Police were initially called to St Johns Rd after shots being heard, then a vehicle fled before stopping in Grafton where the man was found dead.

Police are appealing for sightings of a silver four-door sedan seen in St Johns and Glen Innes on Monday morning.

“This vehicle was in those areas between 5.30am and 6.30am and we urge anyone that saw this vehicle to contact police,” said Detective Inspector Lloyd Schmid.

“Our investigation is progressing and we are following a number of lines of enquiry in this matter.”
