The Canadian government announced on Thursday that non-essential personnel would be temporarily removed from its embassy in Haiti, citing the country’s rapidly deteriorating security situation.

“Global Affairs Canada is temporarily removing non-essential Canadian personnel and family members of Canadian embassy officials from Haiti,” the ministry said in a statement, adding that necessary staff will continue to serve Canadians in the country.
