In connection with a firearms incident in Motueka on Tuesday, a man was arrested in a town north of Christchurch.

Following a scheduled traffic arrest this morning, he was safely arrested near Woodend on State Highway 1.

Nelson Bays commander Paul Borrell said the 33-year-old was a person of interest in the weapons incident, which wounded a man.
