Gas prices in the United States have risen to their highest level in seven years.

According to AAA, gas prices in the United States have reached a seven-year high, with a national average of $3.22 per gallon.

According to AAA, the last time gas prices were at the current average was in October 2014. A year ago, the national average was $2.18 per gallon.

The average on Wednesday is four cents higher than the average for the month of September ($3.18).

The Houston area of Texas has some of the lowest gas prices in the country, with an average of $2.78 per gallon. Mono County, California, has one of the highest ($5.18) averages.

California has the nation’s highest average at $4.42.

The rise coincides with an increase in oil prices. West Texas Intermediate crude futures traded at $77.60 per barrel Wednesday, inching closer to the $79 per barrel mark in November 2014.
