Following a global cyber attack on businesses, a $100 million ransom demand has been made.

The hackers suspected of being behind a massive ransomware assault that damaged hundreds of businesses worldwide are seeking $US70 million ($NZ100 million) to decrypt the data.

REvil cybercrime group issued the demand on their blog.

According to Allan Liska of cybersecurity company Recorded Future, the post looked to be genuine, and the blog has been used by that group since last year.

Kaseya, a company headquartered in the United States that provides IT management software to Managed Service Providers and small to medium-sized enterprises, had its VSA software infected by ransomware over the weekend.

Hundreds of organisations throughout the world have been impacted, including at least 11 schools in New Zealand.
