It appears that N64 games will be available on Nintendo Switch Online.

It appears that Switch owners will soon be able to play a catalogue of Nintendo 64 titles on the handheld, as well as purchase an authentic copy of the vintage console’s famous controller. An FCC application dubbed ‘Nintendo Game Controller’ was recently uploaded, sparking a flurry of discussion over what it could be.

Twitter user @SamusHunter2 spotted the application on the regulator’s site. The part that has everyone excited is its model name: HAC-043. As noted by Nintendo Life, the first bit, HAC, has been present in all Nintendo Switch products; the Switch itself has HAC-001 printed on the back, the Joy-Con is HAC-015, the Ring-Con is HAC-022.

While the application isn’t very revealing, many are pointing to the fact that the official SNES controller for the Switch was codenamed ‘HAC-042,’ hinting that this upcoming product will be a Nintendo 64 controller.

The file states that the device may be charged by plugging it directly into the Switch’s AC adapter, implying that it is a standalone controller rather than a new Joy-Con, and the image displays a label at the top, similar to the N64 controller.

The submission will be kept confidential for the next six months. According to some leakers, Nintendo will introduce N64 games to its online service sometime during its current fiscal year, which ends in March 2022, at the same time the application will no longer be private.

Nintendo tipster NateDrake said, “Yes – that information is accurate and one of the platforms that will be coming to the Nintendo Switch Online in the future is the revolutionary Nintendo 64.”

This might also be a file for a new Pro Controller, which will be released alongside the Switch OLED next month. Nintendo just released a surprise update for the Switch that enabled Bluetooth audio, enabling for a controller with a headphone connector, which could be crucial.
