A man facing a murder charge was discovered dead in a Northland prison.

A man in Ngawha Prison has died after being charged with murder in the Hokianga settlement of mpere last week.

Following the discovery of the man’s body, police were called to the Northland Region Corrections Facility near Ngwha.

The investigation into the man’s death is still ongoing.

The man appeared in court over the weekend and was scheduled to appear again in the Whangrei High Court on October 28.

Detective Inspector Rhys Johnston said they would no longer be proceeding with the case.

The man who died last week was Keith Stuart Clark, 73, of Ōmāpere.

Both deaths have been referred to the coroner.
