Three Napier schools were in lockdown this afternoon following an incident in the suburb of Onekawa.

Police said they were responding to a callout near Latham Street about 2.30pm but would not reveal any more details.

Lockdowns at William Colenso College, Richmond Primary School and Henry Hill School have since been lifted.

On its Facebook page, William Colenso College confirmed the school had been in lockdown and stated everyone was safe.

In a similar post, Richmond Primary School had advised parents to not pick their children up.
