A toddler in Washington fell 60 feet from a window, landed on a Mazda sedan and ... survived

A 20-month-old boy survived a six-story fall from a suburban Seattle apartment window after landing on a parked car, authorities said.

He was awake and crying when paramedics arrived on Wednesday, Redmond police spokesman James Perry told local news station KIRO.

The roof of the car and the way in which the toddler landed cushioned his plunge, Perry added. The boy was in serious but stable condition at a hospital.

Investigators say the boy propped himself on the edge of a window that was cracked open, pushed through a screen and plunged 60 feet. He was alone in a bedroom while his mother and two siblings were in another room, Perry said.

The owner of the Mazda sedan that the toddler landed on was amazed the boy lived.

“That’s a big dent,” Edward Lu said. “I couldn’t believe it.”

A 1-year-old baby in Minneapolis survived a fall from an 11-story balcony in 2014. He landed in a patch of mulch.

Globally, about 424,000 people die because of falls each year, according to the World Health Organization. Falls are also the second-leading cause of unintentional injury death after road traffic injuries.

Falls from more than 20 feet usually require emergency room treatment, according to the American College of Surgeons.
