Trump team to discuss contents and timing of Middle East ‘peace plan’

US President Donald Trump is this week set to hold a “crucial meeting” with his senior national security and foreign policy advisers in order “to discuss both the details of the White House’s Israeli-Palestinian peace plan and the timing for its release,” Axios reported.

Citing US officials, the report stated that the meeting – scheduled a month ago – will include Senior Advisor and Trump’s son in law Jared Kushner, Special Representative Jason Greenblatt and National Security Adviser John Bolton, as well as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo or another senior State Department official.

The US Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, flew to Washington this weekend for the meeting.

“The meeting will cover the most updated details of the plan but is set to focus even more on the timing and manner of its launch”, according to Axios citing US officials. “Trump wants to present the plan soon, but his advisers favour a more cautious approach and have differing opinions regarding the best timing,” Axios continued.

“Some of Trump’s advisers think releasing the plan during an election campaign in Israel would be a mistake,” with Friedman in particular believing that “the White House should wait until after the election to prevent it from becoming a referendum on the plan”.
