Iraq launches airstrikes against Daesh in Syria

Iraqi F- 16 fighter jets have carried out air strikes against the Daesh militant group also known as Daesh in the Syrian province of Deir ez-Zour on the border with Iraq, the Iraqi defence ministry said Tuesday.

The Joint Operations Command said in a statement that the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi armed forces, Adel Abdul Mahdi had ordered the strikes.

According to the statement, the Iraqi fighter jets have targeted “an arms warehouse that belonged to the so-called the Faruq Brigades with ten terrorists inside, noting that the warehouse had rockets and explosives inside it.

“The Iraqi fighters carried out another painful strike against the so-called Al-Faruq Corps headquarters with 30 terrorists inside it as well as missiles and various rifles”.

“According to our intelligence, the two targets were completely destroyed, and our aircraft have returned home safely” it concluded.
