Speaking at the opening session of the 34th meeting of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) held on the Turkish city of Istanbul, Erdogan praised what he described as “the sacrifices of the Palestinian people in defence for Jerusalem.”

“As long as Muslims defend rights, justice and freedoms, Palestine will continue to exist,” he explained.

“History for us is not a set of events that have taken place, but it is a source of lessons for which we draw strength and courage from,” Erdogan noted.

The Turkish leader extended his greetings “to the young men and women of Palestine who sacrifice their lives in defence of Jerusalem, and to the Palestinian refugees who shed tears for 70 years longing for their homeland. “

“I send a special greeting to the land of civilization and peace, Palestine, and to Al-Quds Al-Sharif, the heart of the Islamic world,” Erdogan said.

He called on the Muslims not to fall into the traps of those who try “to play on our differences.”

“We should not put up new walls, new frontiers in our hearts in this region whose borders were drawn with blood,” the president stressed.
