Photographer sues Cam’ron over mixtape artwork

The artwork for Cam’ron’s latest mixtape is getting him sued.

Photographer Eli Reed has sued the rapper for using a photo from his book “Black in America” as the cover for 2017’s “The Program,” according to Harlem Patch.

Reed alleges that neither Cam nor his representatives ever approached him about using the picture of a group of young black boys playing on a broken down car, which also graced the cover of the photographer’s career retrospective “Eli Reed: A Long Walk Home.”

“He has displayed the Photograph at the point of sale of the mixtape, plastered the Photograph all over merchandise, created videos on his social media pages featuring the Photograph, and even promoted his collaboration with Reebok using the Photograph, all without the least regard for Reed’s intellectual property rights,” the lawsuit claims.

According to the court docs, the rapper claims he never bothered to get Reed’s permission to use the photo because it was “in black-and-white, and was presumed to be old and in the public domain.”

Reed wants a court order barring Cam’ron from using the photo and is seeking damages and all profits from the use of the image.
