Former Welsh Guard left bleeding on the street after being knocked unconscious outside nightclub

A decorated Welsh Guardsman was knocked unconscious and suffered a fractured jaw and broken nose after he was attacked outside a nightclub.

Dad-of-three Christopher Richards, who has served tours in Afghanistan, Iraq and Bosnia, fell and hit his head on the curb during the assault by a stranger in Tredegar in the early hours of Sunday, August 26.

Despite being knocked unconscious, fracturing his jaw, breaking his nose and losing a large amount of blood, his family claim it took the Welsh Ambulance Service two-and-a-half hours to reach him.

His cousin Dylan Pritchard, who also suffered damage to his cheek and eye socket in the assault, said he is still deeply shaken by the incident and is urging people to come forward with information.

“We were waiting outside for a lift when two boys started talking to us,” he said.

“Out of nowhere one of them hit Chris who fell backwards and smashed his head on the floor. They then hit me.

“Chris was in a terrible state. I actually thought he was dead because the blood just drained out of him.

“He now has problems with his memory and is paralysed on one side of his face.”
