Fatal crash: Driver under police guard after death of pregnant woman, unborn twins

The man suspected of causing the horrific fatal crash in Sydney that claimed two lives, including a pregnant woman and her unborn twins, remains under police guard in hospital.

Witnesses say 29-year-old Richard Moana’s car jumped a median strip in Orchard Hills, near Penrith, on Friday night and crashed into victim Ahn Hoang’s Nissan.

Ms Hoang, a 17-year-old learner driver, died at the scene. Her brother Bronco was critically injured in the front seat while her passenger, and pregnant sister-in-law, Katherine was also tragically killed.

NSW Police confirmed Katherine’s unborn twins did not survive.

“It's probably one of the worst scenes that I've been to in my career and it was certainly distressing for the paramedics,” NSW Ambulance acting inspector Joe Ibrahim said.

Witness Jarrad Sherlock said the crash, which brought police and paramedics to tears, was a tragic scene.
“I’ve never seen anyone

drive so stupid in my life,” he said.

“He was flying.

“He come flying past us … it was a 60km/h zone.”

Mr Sherlock says he did everything he could to help at the scene but it wasn’t enough.

“I was telling (Ahn) everything was going to be all right basically,” he said.

“Just trying to reassure her but I didn’t know if she could hear me.”

Family members say Bronco and Katherine were only recently married, and they are now keeping a bedside vigil for the surviving 25-year-old at Westmead Hospital.

Police are at the bedside of the other driver, Mr Moana, as he fights for life.

According to 7 News, police are waiting to speak with him in regards to the crash as part of the investigation.
