Catholic Church signs up for National Redress Scheme for victims of child sexual abuse

The Catholic Church has joined up to the compensation scheme for victims of institutional child sexual abuse.

In a major step forward, the Church has announced it will enter the National Redress Scheme, becoming the first non-government institution to do so.

All states and territories, except Western Australia, have opted into the scheme, which would offer victims up to $150,000 in compensation.

The scheme is due to come into effect from July 1.

More to come.
