PS4 vs Xbox vs Nintendo Switch: Gamers will be SHOCKED when they read this

By James Wright

Sony PS4 and Microsoft Xbox bosses are in for an almighty shock.

Both of the two most home console makers have been far more dominant in the market in recent years at the expense of Nintendo who took a step back with their unpopular Wii U console.

But with the release of the Nintendo Switch, the Japanese gaming giant has clawed back a lot of good will in a relatively short space of time.

Now a new survey in the US has revealed that more people are interested in owning a Nintendo Switch console than either a PS4 Pro or the upcoming Microsoft Project Scorpio.

These stats come courtesy of the Nielsen Games 360 Report.

According to IGN "a pool of over 2,000 participants, 16 percent of gamers aged 13 and up said they would probably buy the Switch, while only 15 percent said the same for the PS4 Pro and 13 percent for the Scorpio."

The Nielsen Games 360 Report is a U.S. survey conducted every year which aims to research how Americans are feeling about the gaming sector at the current time.

It's worth noting that the Nielsen report does distinguish between the PS4 and PS4 Pro as well as the Xbox One and soon to be released Xbox Scorpio.

"Including the currently available consoles from Sony and Microsoft dethrones Nintendo's lead," explains IGN.

"21 percent of the gamer audience and 15 percent of the general public polled is interested in buying the standard PS4 console, while the Xbox One is next in line with 17 percent and 12 percent interest from both groups, respectively. That puts the currently available Xbox One and the Switch at an even level with the general audience."

It clearly shows that gamers are far less interested in these suped-up higher-powered consoles.

Bizarrely this isn't even the first time since the release of the new Nintendo console that the Switch has managed to 'get one over' it's fellow console makers.

Earlier this year it was revealed that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was Amazon's best-selling game of 2017 so far - just a handful of days after the game's release.

That's over the likes of Sony's impressive console exclusives like Horizon Zero Dawn and Nioh.

Or indeed Microsoft's Xbox One platform exclusive Halo Wars 2, which didn't come close to touching the likes of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

While that's certainly possible, the idea that the Nintendo Switch racing game could have sold more than third party platform games such as Mass Effect: Andromeda, For Honor and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands is remarkable.

In total Nintendo's new console has proved incredibly popular since releasing in March, selling 2.74 million units within its first month and even causing Nintendo to resort to shipping some consoles by plane to meet consumer demand.
