Saturday wasn't just any old loss for the Miami Heat.
The team also lost one of its promising young stars for the season.
Justise Winslow tweaked his shoulder on the final possession of Saturday's 107-98 loss to the Detroit Pistons. He did not play on Sunday and didn't travel with the team to Arizona for its Tuesday game against the Phoenix Suns.
The Heat announced Wednesday that Winslow, 20, will have surgery Thursday to repair a torn labrum.
"Justise Winslow will undergo surgery tomorrow to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder & is likely out for the remainder of the season," the Heat tweeted.
Winslow was averaging 10.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game for the 10-26 Heat.
"I really feel for him because I know how much time he put in this summer," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "He's put in as much time as anybody. I know how much it means for him to be here (with his team) and be able to make an impact."
The Heat face the Los Angeles Lakers at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6 at the Staple Center.
