Jogger Hears Odd Noise, Horrified By What She Finds Hidden In Dirty Box

A jogger from Michigan was on her daily run when she suddenly heard an odd noise. As most people would do, she decided to stop and take a closer look. However, she was left horrified by what she found hidden under a tree in a dirty cardboard box and immediately called for help.
Julie Newman was going for a quick jog one morning when she unexpectedly heard an odd noise off in the distance. As she grew closer the area from where the sound came, she knew something was wrong. In fact, sitting in a dirty cardboard box, abandoned underneath a tree, were 19 four-week-old puppies.
“I could hear little yelps,” Julie explained, according to Inside Edition. “And then I saw a box that was moving. I’m just heartbroken. I just don’t understand how anyone could do this.”

The large pack of puppies were uncomfortable and climbing over one another inside of their cardboard home. Sadly, Julie quickly realized that the box was soaked in pee and the puppies had been abandoned in the park. Thankfully, Julie quickly called her sister to come help, and the duo took the puppies to the Humane Society.
“Some of them were in rough condition when we first got them,” Wendy Welch, communications director for the Humane Society of Huron Valley, explained, according to Detroit Free Press. “All of them are eating, so that’s a positive sign.”
After getting examined by the veterinarian, the puppies were determined to be approximately four weeks old, from multiple litters, and are a pit bull terrier mix breed. Although some of the puppies were treated for dehydration, they are all expected to make a full recovery. Unfortunately, the puppies will not available for adoption for another month.
“It’s hard to say why someone would dump puppies in a park. But there is no good reason for such a careless act. This is exactly why animal shelters exist — to provide safety and care to animals in need,” Tanya Hilgendorf, the organization’s CEO, said. “We don’t ever want to see animals, especially babies, abandoned in the cold, left to fend for themselves.”
With all of the options available for animal care, there is no excuse for selfish people to be abandoning puppies in a park. Hopefully, whoever committed the disturbing act will either come forward or someone will provide more information regarding the incident so they can be dealt with. It’s one thing to breed animals, it’s another to completely disregard the care the puppies need once they’re here. It’s simple — if you can’t handle the responsibility, don’t do it.
