Donald Trump has said that he is ‘very much’ looking forward to meeting Theresa May in the spring.
The President-elect tweeted his excitement at meeting the Prime Minister early this morning following the announcement that the pair would be meeting soon.
He wrote: ‘I look very much forward to meeting Prime Minister Theresa May in Washington in the Spring. Britain, a longtime U.S. ally, is very special!’
Mr Trump and Mrs May will meet in Washington, following preparatory meetings by her closest advisers over the Christmas period.
The meeting was arranged by Mrs May’s closest aides who visited the States in a secret mission to build bridges with his team.

Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill reportedly travelled to the US for meetings in New York and Washington last month.
But the PM has still not managed to pin down a date, according to reports.

Mr Trump triggered a rift with Downing Street following his election after suggesting Nigel Farage should be Britain’s ambassador to the United States.
London responded that there was no vacancy, but the suggestion, an unprecedented breach of diplomatic protocol, was embarrassing for the government.
