Despite being in his fifth NFL season and signing a four-year, $72 million contract this offseason, Brock Osweiler is "basically a rookie," according to Bob McNair.
"He's still basically a rookie," The Houston Texans owner told the Houston Chronicle. "He's going to make some mistakes, but he shows that he has the talent, he has the ability and has the leadership that the team has confidence in him."
Osweiler threw 10 touchdowns and six interceptions while earning a 5-2 record last season for the Denver Broncos. This season, he has completed 176-of-297 passes for 1,719 yards, nine touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He is 5-3 through eight weeks.
On Sunday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Osweiler's "lack of confidence" is affecting his play.
"One source said he believed Osweiler's inaccuracy is a direct result of his lack of assurance in his abilities," Schefter wrote.
Following its 20-13 win Sunday against the Detroit Lions, the Texans have a divisional road test at 1 p.m. Nov. 13 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
